In our latest Distilling Cyber Policy podcast episode, Alex Botting and Jen Ellis from the Center for Cybersecurity Policy & Law are joined by Anne Marie Schumann, the Department of the Navy’s Principal Cyber Advisor. In this role, she is responsible for advising the Secretary of the Navy, Chief of Naval Operations, and Commandant of the Marine Corps on all cyber matters and implementing the Department of Defense Cyber Strategy within the Navy.

In the discussion, Anne Marie shares context on the Navy’s first-ever Department Cyber Strategy, which was released in November 2023 and focuses on seven lines-of-effort, including:

  • Improving and supporting its cyber workforce.
  • Defending enterprise IT, data and networks.
  • Securing defense critical infrastructure and weapon systems.
  • Conducting and facilitating cyber operations.
  • Partnering with the private sector to secure the defense industrial base.
  • Fostering cooperation and collaboration with relevant partners.

Our news segment this week features CISA’s recent call for comments on their cyber incident reporting form, which will be accepted until December 6. For our Community Corner segment, we are joined by the fantastic Pablo Rice, Head of Cyber and Emerging Technologies Programme at the Paris Peace Forum.
